Turkey Trot Social Sail
Thanksgiving weekend Monday October 12th is our Turkey Trot Social Sail to the Forestry Camp (Eveley Rec Site). The event is open to all sailboats at VYC and NOSA. Gather a few friends and join the group for a Thanksgiving sail across the channel. RSVP Bob to register please or just show up on race day . There will be no before-party but join us for an apres-race BYOB refreshment on B deck by the gate and cheer the “tail end” of the fleet across the finish line.
A quick Sailors Meeting will take place around 10:30 at the Vernon Yacht Club Gate. Race starts at approx. 11:00 am.
3 bottles of rum are up for grabs. 1) Line Honours, 2) Mystery Time Finish 3) Special Award
Race Course Start Between X and Y Marks in front of the club (3 Yellow Buoys).

• Race Course Start, Turn, and Finish lines – Shown on the images above.
• There will be a single start time for all.
• Start line is the entire width of the XY line in front of the club.
• Race Start: anywhere along the XY line in front of the club (Blues In Sea is Committee Boat).
Around 10:59 am the Horn sounds 5 times to warn of impending countdown.
5 Min Long Horn and Red Fleet Flag Up
4 Min Prep Flag Up (Blue Flag with White Square) and 1 Horn Sound
1 Min Prep Flag Down and 1 Horn sound
0 Min Race Starts, Both Fleet Flags Down and 1 Horn Sound – Approx 11:05 Cross between X and Y and head for the West Side.
• Round the mark/mooring buoy at the forestry camp leaving it to your port side (there are several mooring buoys here – just pick one). If too shallow, turn sooner.
• Record your time after you round the forestry camp buoy (in case we run out of wind for the true finish).
• Sail back towards the club and cross the finish line anywhere between the 2 outside marks (X and Y).
• Record your time at the finish line (there will be no committee boat).
• Race ends at 4:00 pm finish.
• ID your own time at finish. Radio your result to ‘Blues in Sea’ on channel 72 or text 250-938-0209 or email annand@shaw.ca. Advise of the name or sail number of the boat in front and behind you.
• Winners will be First Place: first across the line (line honours) Second Place: Line honour time plus Mystery Time Added. Third Place: Special Prize.
• Winners announced and Prizes awarded no later than at the wind-up party.
NOSA 2026 Fall Cleanup

Everyone is welcome — you don’t need to be a NOSA member to help out. Bring gloves and weather-appropriate clothing. See you there!
Commodore’s Cup U35 Invitational Regatta 2026
This was our second year bringing the U35 SCR (Storm Castle Rock) crew to the Commodores Cup at Kelowna Yacht Club, and after a 5th-place finish last year, we came back hungry for a podium.
It started rocky — literally. Before Race 1, we noticed our motor mount had split. We taped it and hoped for the best, but mid-race, while leading, we heard a splash and watched our motor drop into the water. Crew member Jacob L hauled it back aboard with one arm, while our competitors on Squirrely watched in disbelief. Minutes later we ran aground near the windward mark, broke free, and still snuck a photo-finish 2nd place.
Between races, gracious members of KYC built us a new motor mount on the spot. When our old Mercury gave one last puff of smoke and died, we scrambled — luckily, I'd just bought a Santana named Razzle Dazzle with a spare motor aboard. Twenty pulls later, it roaredto life.
Race 4 was the one that mattered. We had a clean start with minimal boats around us, then on a port tack upwind we came within six inches of Squirrely's bow — the whole crew was screaming at me not to go above, and somehow it worked.
A bad rounding at the windward mark dropped us to 5th, but a lucky wind shift lifted us past two boats while others got headed sailing away from the mark. With our spinnaker still catching air in the dying breeze with over 50 boat lengths behind, we crawled past Fossil Squared and then Always Something — undefeated all weekend — to take the gun. Word came over the radio: no more races today. That first-place finish locked in 2nd overall, by a single point.
We also took home the Regattatude award for best sailing vibes on the water. Huge thanks to my crew — Emily A, Finn LP, Jacob A, and Jacob L — for a wild, unforgettable regatta and our best finish yet. I'm already looking forward to getting back out there on Razzle Dazzle.

NOSA Spring Cleanup
Our Annual Spring Clean-Up marks the start of a new sailing season at the North Okanagan Sailing Association. Members come together to refresh the clubhouse, tidy up the grounds, and get the docks and boats ready for summer. It’s a fun and productive day that brings everyone together, followed by great company and a well-earned barbecue lunch. Whether you’re new to the club or a long-time member, it’s the perfect way to kick off the season and lend a hand to keep our club looking its best.
NOSA Fall Cleanup
The sailing season comes to an end with a 9am clean up, putting everything was and taking down the masts on the boats. The more help the better, and prepare for a bbq lunch!
Commodore’s Cup U35 Invitational Regatta
On August 16th and 17th an age specific regatta was held at Kelowna Yacht Club for competitors under the age of 35. It was a subset of the Commodores cup and was called the 2025 Commodore’s Cup U35 Invitational Regatta. There were approximately 55 competitors from Alberta and BC all under the age of 35 in Two fleets. Fleet 1 was crewed (Uncoached) and Fleet 2 was coached. Two boats participated from VYC – Storm Castle Rock (Mike Reilly kindly loaned out his boat for a team based out of Kelowna) and RI, which was crewed by instructors from NOSA. (Tyler, Finn, Emily and Jacob).
NOSA 2025 Regatta
Congratulations to Tyler Roos from NOSA placing 1st in the Laser fleet, as well as Edward and Egan from Sea Cadets placing 1st in X Fleet, first time Sea Cadets win X-fleet since 2009! We’ll see you all next year!
